Reclaimed Hardwood Review PDF Print E-mail

Reclaimed HardwoodReclaimed wood is wood that has already been used for another purpose, and has been salvaged for another use. Almost all reclaimed wood is higher-grade wood than the newly-harvested wood sold today--with more beauty, stability, clarity, and density--as it was originally harvested from old-growth forests. Using reclaimed wood leaves forests standing, protecting trees, the watershed, and habitat for wildlife and understory plants. Generally, less embodied energy is used to create reclaimed wood products than to create new wood products or plastic lumber, concrete, or steel. Even reclaimed wood shipped via boat from other continents still contain less embodied energy compared to domestic manufactured products, as sea freight is very energy efficient. TerraMai also does everything they can to keep the financial benefits of reclaiming wood close to community where the wood came from. Wood is an ideal choice for indoor air quality when a nontoxic or natural finish is applied. It's easy to clean and keep dust-free.

Choosing Flooring: Hardwood PDF Print E-mail

There are two types of hardwood flooring:

Engineered flooring is manufactured in a manner similar to plywood, where three or five thin sheets (plies) of wood are laminated (glued) together in a crisscross formation for strength. A top layer (veneer) of hardwood is added as a finished top layer. Engineered flooring is available as strips or planks. Strips are 3" or less in width. Planks are over 3" wide. Engineered floors are very stable and can be installed on any grade level. Although engineered wood floors are manufactured through a laminating process, they are not the same as a laminate floor.

Longstrip Flooring.

Solid floors are cut from solid pieces of wood and milled to standard specifications. The flooring can be installed as planks or strips.

  • A longstrip board is constructed of individual slats glued together end to end to form strips. The strips are then installed as tongue and groove.
  • Parquet flooring is normally a 12"x 12" square consisting of narrow strips of wood. The parquet tiles, often of varying finishes, are arranged in geometric patterns.

Wood Structure

Several Berry Floor laminate floors offer the WoodStructure® system. A pattern identical to that of real wood is literally imprinted onto the surface of each sheet so that the laminate floor provides the same natural sensations to the eye and the touch. This relief, which reproduces perfectly that of solid parquet, has been the subject of intensive research to ensure unequalled resistance to wear and the same ease of maintenance as a classical laminate.

Micro Wood View

The laminate boards are slightly beveled off on all four sides. Thanks to these subtle V–grooves, in the same color as the boards, the hardwood look of your laminate floor becomes even more realistic.

X Long

Process consisting of creating much longer boards than usual (more than 6 feet long) in order to facilitate installation in large rooms or make average-size rooms look bigger through optical illusion.

All Hacienda laminate boards are 79.92" long
